Course Outline

Pragmatic Metrology offers an online video course covering many common gages used in metrology, inspection, machining, and production.

All 28 hours of course content, drawings, and resources are online 100% free. Simply navigate the site menu to find what you are looking for.

Included is a complete self-paced course that includes over 20 hours of instructional videos at multiple camera angles, lectures and demonstrations for each gage, discussions of key concepts to give context to the gages and the industry, drawings, 3D models, step-by-step practice exercises, and resources to help you in your career. This also includes a special focus on understanding and inspecting GD&T requirements with hand tools and surface plate equipment.

The course is designed to help beginners get into the industry and start off with the context that can take years of experience to learn. Intermediate and advanced inspectors should also find the course as a useful review while learning some larger context and perhaps some new gages.

Many of the topics rely on one-another for complete understanding. The instructor will often mention that other videos may explain a concept in greater detail. This is an unavoidable challenge in an industry that demands high quality work at all times. The material has been organized in a way that will give the student the best progression of gages and context from beginner tools and topics to more advanced ones. However, you can watch these video topics in any order and focus on only the topics you are interested in. Pragmatic Metrology recommends watching the videos several times to fully understand the topics. Perhaps in the recommended order first, then as is needed by the student.
